Importance of Protein
A lack of protein can result in reduced muscle mass and strength leading to an increased risk of falls and fractures affecting quality of life and independence.
The recommended dietary intake (RDI) for protein is 81g per day (1.07g/kg) for men and 57g per day (0.94g/kg) for women over the age of 70 years, however recent evidence indicates that older adults should consume over the RDI1.
Research has shown that up to 40% of older people have an inadequate intake of protein2.
